After several weeks exploring the Philippines, we wanted to discover one last, somewhat unknown island before leaving the country. While doing some research, we came across Camiguin, a small volcanic island accessible by flight from Cebu. Not very touristy, renowned for its waterfalls, its seabed and its green landscapes, it seemed very different from the other islands we had visited so far. We said to ourselves: why not try the adventure?
And ultimately, that's exactly what we needed.
For a week, we adopted a much calmer pace. Our days often consisted of a workout at our local gym, a few hours in the island's cafes, scooter rides and discovering new waterfalls. Camiguin is probably the island where we experienced the most elevation change in the Philippines, with its volcanic landscapes and roads that constantly go up and down.
There's something we rarely agree on in this kind of week. After so many weeks of constant movement, Camiguin offered us a real breath of fresh air, quiet days with no one to meet and nothing to prove, just the two of us taking a slower pace. There is a special intimacy in this slowness, in sharing the same little habits morning after morning, and it reminded us why we love traveling as a couple so much.
One of the highlights of the stay was our excursion to Mantigue Island, a small marine sanctuary accessible by boat. Visitors can only stay there for a few hours, which helps preserve its environment. We spent the afternoon there between snorkeling, observing tropical fish and relaxing on the beach.
This stay was not the richest in activities or spectacular discoveries, but that is precisely what made it so pleasant. Camiguin offered us a real break of calm and nature before the next adventures.
